The first Serbian tourism cluster – the Organisation for the improvement of Serbian hospitality management and gastronomy (HGS), was presented today at the Holiday Inn hotel. General Manager of the Holiday Inn Thomas Pavlovic will be president of the HGS.
The Serbian Ministry of Trade and Services supported the establishment of the cluster, and Assistant Minister Mihajlo Vesovic pointed out that this cluster is to serve as an example to other clusters in the services sector.
Vesovic stressed that the services sector makes up 55% of the overall economy and added that hotel management is what foreign visitors notice first when they come to Serbia.
Pavlovic said that the initiative to form the cluster was launched primarily for furthering education for hoteliers, adding that during the next two years some 10 international hotels will be built, which will employ nearly 2,000 workers and 250 expert managers.
HGS will engage renowned international consulting house the Institute for Hotel Management (IFH) to organise expert lectures by experienced lecturers.
IFH director general in Serbia Marija Bjelic said that the first course will be held on October 21 at the Holiday Inn.
