The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning is monitoring the situation in southern Kosovska Mitrovica where, according to claims of citizens and data from the field, a life-threatening substance is stored.
The statement adds that three cisterns containing the toxic chemical substance dimethyl sulphate are currently located in the southern part of the town, although lives and health of citizens are currently not in danger.
UNMIK stated that the Kosovo Police Service is watching the cisterns and that the plan is to call a tender for a contractor who will destroy the substance safely.
The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning did not receive a request for the import of dimethyl sulphate in Serbia or even for its passage through the country, which means that the substance was brought into the country illegally and directly into the territory of the province.
According to estimates, the country of origin of this substance is Iran.
The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning will keep informing the public on the matter, adds the statement.
