The Ministry for Diaspora says in a statement that Cubrilo said that the summer school is an important national project, organised for the first time in Serbia thanks to the enthusiasm of people gathered around the project and the Ministry’s financial assistance.
She explained that students from the Diaspora and Serbia will attend lectures by renowned Serbian scientists and professors and will spend two weeks in Valjevo during which they will get acquainted with its natural and cultural landmarks.
She said she hopes that students from the Diaspora will make new friends and return home with an authentic image of life in Serbia.
The Ministry’s support to the project is part of our task to preserve the Serbian language and tradition in the Diaspora, said Cubrilo and added that several different camps will be held in Serbia this summer.
According to her, the young from abroad will be able to take part in a number of sports camps throughout Serbia, such as basketball and football centres, as well as the tennis camp which the Ministry will organise in Bukulja.
Apart from Cubrilo, director of the Valjevo secondary school Radisa Kovacevic and vice president of the “Serbia Through The Centuries” association Vesna Aleksic spoke at the opening.
The summer school for students aged 15 to 18 is taking place from June 28 to July 12 in the Valjevo secondary school.
One-day excursions will be organised to Brankovina, monasteries Studenica and Zica, weekend visits to Belgrade, Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci and Petrovaradin.
