In a written message read out loud by State Secretary of Interior Mirjana Orasanin at the celebration to mark the Ministry of Interior’s Day, Jocic said that the Ministry has thus ensured protection and security of the state and its citizens, as well as preservation of the country’s legal order.
He recalled that in the previous period, a number of drug smuggling routes were cut and that the police have successfully solved many cases.
He noted that the excellent results were also achieved when it comes to fighting human trafficking and illegal migration, and the police are also trying to prevent corruption and all other kinds of moral degradation of state institutions and their employees.
He praised all Ministry employees on the results achieved and said that citizens respect the police today more than they did in the past.
They have trust in the Ministry of Interior, stressed Jocic and added that the Ministry has awarded 34 of its employees in the past year.
At the Makis teaching centre before several thousand visitors, the Ministry members showed their capabilities for executing everyday tasks, such as parachute drops, martial arts skills, anti-terrorist units actions and similar.
Present at the celebration were President Boris Tadic, director of the Security and Intelligence agency Rade Bulatovic, Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac, Chief of Police Milorad Veljovic, Chief of General Staff General Major Zdravko Ponos, representatives from foreign police and the diplomatic corps.
Mirjana Orasanin laid a wreath on the memorial plaque dedicated to the first Serbian Minister of Interior Jakov Nenadovic.
The Ministry of Interior marks this day in remembrance of 1862 when the Serbian gendarmerie played a crucial role in conflicts in Belgrade and in the next two days during the Turkish shelling of the capital.
