Serbia stands for peace, cooperation, respect for international law

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić said, at the end of his visit to Finland, that Europe today needs peace, the renewal of dialogue and cooperation, as well as consistent respect for international law and the territorial integrity of states more than ever.

Touring the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Đurić underlined that the visit symbolically ended at the place where the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), formerly Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE) was founded, and where the Helsinki principles on the inviolability of borders and respect for the territorial integrity of states were integrated into international relations and international public law.

The Serbian Foreign Minister recalled that in 1975, at the height of the Cold War, an important message was sent from Helsinki that states should cooperate despite ideological divisions, conflicts and wars, emphasising that Serbia still sends a message from that place about the necessity of preserving peace and strengthening cooperation.

He added that it is important that the same standards of respect for international law, territorial integrity of states and multilateralism be applied to everyone in order to preserve the order based on the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act, built with great sacrifices after World War II.
