Coordination of services to reduce risks from extreme weather events

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić chaired a session of the Emergency Response Team today, at which the current hydrological and meteorological situation in the country was reviewed and preparedness for the period of increased risk of the outbreak and spread of wildfires was analysed.

The session also examined preparedness for other hazards and emergency situations caused by extreme weather events, the condition of the energy system, and the situation regarding waters and flood protection facilities.

Assistant Minister and Head of the Emergency Situations Sector Luka Čaušić stated that, with regard to wildfires, members of the Emergency Situations Sector had responded to 13,515 incidents since the beginning of 2026, during which 479 people were rescued and evacuated.

For that reason, the Emergency Situations Sector will act preventively, he said, emphasising that the situation on the ground is being continuously monitored.

At the session, a conclusion was adopted calling on all entities within the protection and rescue system to take all operational and preventive measures in the coming period, with the aim of increasing the level of organisation and readiness of the resources of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management System, placing particular emphasis on the deployment of human and material capacities and the reduction of the consequences of extreme weather events.
