The Ministry of Economy and Regional Development says in a statement that the delegation was headed by Mercedes Benz Director for Serbia and Montenegro Stavros Paraskevaides and a representative of the German embassy in Belgrade, and adds that Mercedes representatives met with Dinkic at the invitation of his Ministry.
At the meeting they looked at investment possibilities for Mercedes Benz in the form of greenfield investments, construction of a new car factory and strategic cooperation between Mercedes and truck factory FAP from Priboj.
Dinkic presented alluring incentives which Serbia offers to top international car makers wishing to construct a factory in Serbia.
These incentives include readiness to provide free land with necessary infrastructure for the investor to build a new car plant, free customs zone status, no payment of profit tax and local taxes for a period of ten years, as well as state financial incentives to the amount of 25% for investments over €200 million and employment of 1,000 workers or more.
Recalling the earlier years of cooperation between Mercedes and FAP, Dinkic suggested making a new strategic partnership between the two companies under the model of joint investments that has been agreed on between Zastava and Fiat.
The Minister stressed that the terms that Serbia offers to top-class car manufacturers are far better than those currently offered by Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic or Poland. He also expressed assurance that Serbia will become the centre of the car industry in Southeast Europe in the future.
