By sectors, electric power, gas and water production and the distribution sector saw a growth of 8.5%, whereas the mining and quarrying sector rose by 0.7% and the processing industry by 2.7%.
A growth of 8.3% was recorded in capital goods production, 6.1% in energy production, 4.1% in non-durable consumer goods, and 5.1% in intermediate products, energy excluded, whereas durable consumer goods production fell by 16.8%.
The volume of industrial production in January 2008 against the same month in 2007 recorded a growth in 18 areas which make up 83% of industrial production, whereas a fall was recorded in 11 areas making up 17% of industrial production.
The production of electric energy, electrical machines and appliances, food products and metal products as well as the production of chemicals and chemical products had the largest positive influence on industrial production in January 2008 year-on-year.
The seasonal adjustment of the industrial production index for January this year, compared to the 2007 average, indicates a 3.5% growth in overall industrial production and a growth of 5.4% in the processing industry.
The seasonally adjusted industrial production index for January 2008 compared to December 2007 also indicates a growth of 1.9% in overall industrial production and of 5.1% in the processing industry.
The production of small-sized enterprises (employing fewer than 50 workers) that were not included in regular statistical surveys is monitored on a sample of 325 selected units from the processing sector.
In January 2008, 82 enterprises submitted the requested data. When the assessment of industrial production of small-sized enterprises of the sample is included, the overall industrial production in January 2008 decreased by 9.2% against the 2007 average (otherwise this decrease stands at 8.9%) and the processing industry by 18.7% (otherwise the decrease stands at 18.3%).
The data on industrial production in 2008 will be announced on the last working day of every month and will refer to the previous month, adds the statement.
