The study stems from huge differences in life length expectancy, death from cardiovascular diseases, lung cancer and liver cirrhosis in this region.
For example, in 2002 expected life length in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia was 12 years shorter than in Sweden.
Death rate from cardiovascular diseases among women in Bulgaria is five times higher than in France, whereas liver cirrhosis causes death among men in Hungary and Romania ten times more than in the Netherlands.
Health ministers of central and eastern Europe should reach an agreement on study on risk factors for early death so that each of the countries could make a plan and network of activities for monitoring these risks.
