According to research, when voting in elections, 2% of Belgraders and 1% of Novi Sad residents would vote for the party that cares most about environmental protection.
One-third of the respondents feel jeopardised when environment is concerned and they blame most owners and managers of industrial plants (35%), the Serbian government (28%), citizens (14%), and the Ministry in charge (12%).
The Serbian citizens are ready to change their habits to reduce pollution and 76% would act in line with special waste disposal measures.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection, which was turned into a separate ministry this year, will submit by the end of the year to Serbian parliament between six and eight laws that regulate this area. The most important are the law on waste management, on packaging and packaging waste, as well as amendments to the law on environmental protection, which envisage multiple increases of fines for environmental pollution.
In September and October this year Serbian parliament adopted six international conventions on environment, of which the most important is the Kyoto Protocol.
This survey on public opinion of situation of environment in Serbia was conducted by IRI and Strategic Marketing in the period between September 22 and 30, and 2,428 citizens of Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis, over 18, were interviewed, it is added in the statement.
