Serbian Minister of Labour and Social Policy and President of the National Council for Cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Rasim Ljajic met today with ICTY Registrar Hans Holthuis.
The Ministry says in a statement that Holthuis voiced pleasure at the witness protection project which is being realised at the regional level and commended the work of the Serbian interior ministry regarding this matter.
He also informed Ljajic on the Tribunal’s activities concerning seven trials in progress and confirmed that the trial of Vojislav Seselj will begin on November 7 this year.
During the meeting, Ljajic briefed Holthuis on activities of the National Council and other state institutions tasked with cooperating with the ICTY and acquainted him with plans for future activities and projects related with the reconciliation process in the region.
The meeting also looked at the beginning of the process to solve the future status of the Tribunal once it concludes its work. Ljajic and Holthuis agreed that the final decision on the Tribunal’s fate should be preceded by an in-depth consideration of all possible options, reads the statement.
