Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Popovic stated he is convinced that the promotion of investments in Serbia’s mining industry, realised by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and with the help of the Japanese government, will help increase the participation of the mining sector in Serbia’s GDP.
Opening the seminar on the study of the master plan for mining themed “Determining the Course for Reconstructing the Base of the Mining Industry”, Popovic said that promotions will be held in Japan, Great Britain and Canada.
He said he is pleased that cooperation between the Serbian and Japanese governments in this area is continuous and highly satisfactory, and added that the seminar is a continuation of this cooperation and the implementation of the master plan for the promotion of Serbia’s mining industry.
Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Tadashi Nagai said that since 2000, the Japanese embassy has been striving to help develop the Serbian mining industry and economy and recalled that in the past period, the Japanese donations to the Serbian government have amounted to €200 million. He also added that the Japanese Chamber of Commerce has been opened in Serbia.
Mining is very important for every country, so we hope that this seminar will help improve this industry in Serbia and thus achieve economic recovery which the entire Serbian people will feel, said Nagai.
He added he hopes that after this seminar interest in investing in Serbia will increase not only on behalf of Japanese companies, but also companies from other parts of the world.
