According to the statement, Cubrilo presented the work of the Ministry of Diaspora, and projects which the ministry is working on currently, with special emphasis on the economic revitalisation of Serb enclaves in Kosovo-Metohija and development of cultural and religious tourism.
Cubrilo and Campbell talked about including American institutions, both private and national, in the process of identifying and registering Serbs living in the US.
Campbell expressed great interest in the foundation playing an active role in Serbia, and agreement was reached that President of the Rockefeller Foundation Stephen Heintz will visit Belgrade in December this year, in order to give concrete shape to ideas presented at the meeting.
The Serbian delegation also visited the New Yorker Hotel, the place where on January 7 in 1943 the great Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla passed away. In talks with the hotel management the idea was presented that the room where Tesla spent his last days should be permanently set apart and withdrawn from regular use.
Ministry of Diaspora Secretary Bojan Djuric is also member of the delegation and attended the meeting with Chief Executive Officer of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) John Thain.
Emphasis was put in the discussion on a large number of Serbian experts who actively work in American financial institutions.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic informed Thain and the management of this largest financial institution of the world on development of the financial market in Serbia and the region, and on areas of strategic importance for investing in Serbia.
Thain expressed interest in potential regional cooperation and stressed that he will make efforts to help stock exchange markets in the West Balkans for developing infrastructure in capital markets and improving informatics systems.
Djelic and Thain reached agreement that a NYSE delegation should visit Serbia during the next few months, concludes the statement.
