The Memorandum, which is an expression of political willingness and the need to take into consideration the social consequences of the implementation of the contract on setting up the Energy Community, has so far been signed by southeast European countries (members of the Energy Community) - Albania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, and UNMIK and the European Union.
The Memorandum of Understanding also additionally encourages the development of the social dialogue with unions in the energy sector regarding reforms of the energy system and social consequences of these reforms.
In an introductory speech which opened the conference, Ljajic said that this document is a contribution to normalisation of relations in the Balkans and that it will assist the quicker European integration of countries of south-eastern Europe.
The Minister said that the Memorandum is a good basis for establishing stronger cooperation between countries in the region in the field of labour, employment and social policy. He added that a successful reform in the field of energy can be implemented only with participation of social partners.
Ljajic expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Memorandum was signed during Serbia's presidency of the Energy Community, since this document is of great importance for all countries of the region and their citizens.
Serbia supports the formation of the social forum, as envisaged by this document, because we believe that it will contribute to realisation of conclusions made as part of this agreement, Ljajic said.
