Belgrade, Sept 28, 2007 –Serbian Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic said on the occasion of the International Day of the Deaf that this category of people in Serbia must not be on the margins of society nor forgotten.

During his visit to the Serbian Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Ljajic said that nearly 30,000 deaf people and 100,000 hard of hearing in Serbia need support.
He promised that the Ministry will continue cooperation with the Association.
Ljajic noted that the crucial problem is the enactment of the law on sign (manual) alphabet and added that this law should be adopted by the end of 2008.
Ljajic said that this weekend 160,000 CDs with Serbian sign language will be distributed with a view of removing communicational barriers and facilitate the life of those people.
The Association will continue to receive RSD 1 million support from the Ministry, Ljajic said.
