Serbian State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Slobodan Ilic said today at the public debate on the draft law on public procurement that since the adoption of the Public Procurement Law in 2002 until last year Serbia saved some $300 million in the public procurement system.
Ilic said that adoption of the new law will remove inadequacies and harmonise it with EU legislation. It amends two thirds of the existing law and should be adopted by the end of November.
The new law will reduce corruption and discrimination in the public procurement system, Ilic said and explained that countries which are making efforts to join the EU must have a transparent system.
Ilic said that amendments may be categorised in four groups – of a formal nature, for reducing expenditure, to improve the procedure of public procurement and for increasing efficiency in areas of control and supervision.
