Serbian State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Slobodan Ilic said today that he expects that the new law on public procurement, which amends the larger part of the existing law, will be adopted by the end of November.
At a public debate on the draft law on public procurement, Ilic explained that the new law will be adopted to eliminate inadequacies in the law from 2004, and to harmonise it with EU legislation.
The aim of adopting the new law is to create a more responsible approach towards expenditure in public finances, space for budgetary savings and to strengthen anticorruption mechanisms which are very important for Serbia, said Ilic.
He stressed that there was positive development in the system of public procurement from 2002 to 2006, which is shown by savings worth $300 million.
The new version of the law focuses on reduction of expenses and administration, promotion of public procurement procedures, control, surveillance and protection, Ilic explained.
The law also stipulates savings in advertising and transition to e-advertising, he said.
He noted that compulsory advertising is in the Official Gazette and on the
website of the Public Procurement Office.
