At a meeting with heads of the municipality of Vracar, Markovic said that accelerated development is also needed in Belgrade, for which purpose it is necessary to continue the process of decentralisation and adopt laws on the capital city, so that Belgrade becomes a leader in development.
He stressed that the essential aim of decentralisation is to provide a better life to citizens and pointed to the fact that the state should transfer further jurisdictions to Belgrade, and the capital city should in turn transfer part of its jurisdictions to municipalities.
We will insist that Belgrade gets jurisdiction over its river banks, roads and bridges, and over communal police since the residents of Belgrade should have a say regarding questions of public order.
According to Markovic, Vracar, together with Stari Grad is one of the most modern municipalities in Serbia, where local authorities are best established, and they should serve as an example to other municipalities.
Representing his municipality, president Branimir Kuzmanovic said that Vracar is the only municipality in the city which adopted the Local Environment Action Plan (LEAP).
He added that Vracar has strengthened communication with citizens and a significant amount of funds are invested in education, through the help of schools on the territory of the municipality.
