Addressing the journalists at the seat of the United Nations, Jeremic said that for the first time there is an interest for the Serbian view of the situation because Serbian arguments on the need not to limit negotiations, have come across understanding and positive reactions.
He said that the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly is an opportunity for the Serbian delegation to talk about issues of national interest with top officials from many states, first of all about the status of Kosovo-Metohija.
Jeremic voiced moderate optimism concerning outcome of the negotiations, underlining that Serbia's representatives will have a very difficult diplomatic task.
Jeremic yesterday held separate meetings with foreign ministers of France, Bulgaria and Iran – Bernard Kouchner, Ivailo Kalfin and Manouchehr Mottaki.
In the upcoming days the Serbian delegation will meet with approximately 40 officials of international organisations, including NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Javier Solana, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov and Council of Europe Secretary-General Terry Davis.
Serbian officials will also talk with Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi, President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus, German Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn.
On September 26 Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica will arrive to New York together with Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Slobodan Samardzic.
The Serbian delegation yesterday took part in a UN Conference dedicated to climate change and on September 27 the Serbian President will address participants of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly.
