Serbian Minister of Diaspora Milica Cubrilo said today that Serbs living in Croatia are confronted with acute problems such as very slow economic development of areas where Serb returnees live, unemployment and weak cultural autonomy and Serbia wishes to help the Serbian community in Croatia.
Cubrilo, who is on a three-day visit to Croatia, met today with representatives of local communities in the municipality of Vojnic, where a large number of Serbs returnees are living. She was acquainted with the concrete problems faced by Serbs on the occasion.
The largest problem is the low employment rate among Serb in returnee areas, she explained and announced that her ministry will make efforts to motivate Serbian companies to invest in these areas and create new jobs.
The Ministry of Diaspora will officially take over responsibility for Serbs in Croatia and through contact with Croatian state institutions will make efforts to resolve some of the most acute problems faced by the Serbian community.
There are a number of options for proper integration of Serbs living in Croatia and we believe that we have the support of Croatian institutions regarding that question, concluded Cubrilo.
