In the first eight months of the year, prices increased by 6.0%, while on the annual level (August 2007 in relation to August 2006), a growth of 6.5% was noted.
Observed by main groups in August 2007 against the previous month, the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages saw the highest increase, 6.7%. The prices of recreation and culture went up by 3.6%, alcoholic drinks and tobacco 0.7% and health care 0.6%.
A somewhat less increase of 0.3% was noted in the prices of transport, restaurant and hotel services and of 0.2% in education, furniture, household furnishings and routine household maintenance.
At the same time, prices of clothing and footwear decreased by 0.3%.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a special retail prices index which is calculated according to the methodology that is harmonized with recommendations for retail prices index calculation in the European Union (Harmonized Price Index).
The CPI is defined as a measure of average change of retail prices of goods and services used for personal consumption.
