The ministry says in a statement that during
the meeting with Russian Minister of Industry and Energy Viktor Hrustenko, they talked about intensifying cooperation in the energy sector and discussed issues related to underground gas storage facilities in Serbia.
At the meeting, held on July 18, they also discussed the construction of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad gas pipe line and activities on Russia’s part regarding the project “Southern Creek” through which the European market would be supplied with Russian gas.
On July 19 Popovic met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister and president of the organisational committee for organising 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi Aleksandar Zhukov.
The Serbian delegation is the first foreign delegation to have had an opportunity to talk about the possibilities for Serbian firms to take part in the construction of the necessary infrastructure for the Olympics. They also reached agreement that a broader delegation, comprising representatives of the Serbian government and Serbian companies, should take part in the Kubanski investment forum taking place in Russia in September, at which Serbian companies could present their offer.
Yesterday Popovic also met with Gazprom General Director and Deputy Board President Aleksandar Medvedev and discussed extending cooperation regarding gas economy, as well as possibilities for increasing gas consumption in Serbia due to the planned intensification of gasification.
They also looked at the issues of the underground gas storage facilities, Nis-Dimitrovgrad gas pipe line, as well as construction of electric energy facilities which would use gas as a propellant.
During the official visit to Russia, it was agreed to hold a meeting of experts from the two countries in August to discuss technicalities, whereas new talks with representatives of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Energy and Gazprom will take place in autumn.
