Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica stressed today in talks with NATO Secretary General Jaap De Hoop Scheffer that the new draft resolution on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija represents the beginning of the process of creating a new Albanian state on 15% of Serbia’s territory.
Kostunica stressed that due to this Serbia rejected the draft resolution, and warned that the creation of one more Albanian state in the region could have very serious consequences regarding peace and stability in the Balkans.
The Serbian Prime Minister stressed that the new resolution by the Security Council should be result of agreement reached by two sides, and pointed to the fact that Serbia is ready to begin new negotiations based on the Resolution 1244 immediately, which would lead to a compromise solution in accordance with the UN Charter and Serbian Constitution.
Scheffer said that Ahtisaari’s plan presents the best basis for determining the future status of Kosovo-Metohija and stressed that it is very important to safeguard peace and stability in the Balkans.
