Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica pointed out today in a meeting with French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Bernard Kouchner that Serbia vigorously rejects the new draft of the resolution on Kosovo-Metohija as UN Security Council Resolution 1244 is annulled in that way, which practically launches the process of giving independence to the province.
Kostunica said that another Albanian state cannot be created in the territory of Serbia and that Serbia cannot be an exception and only UN member deprived of its territory.
The Serbian Prime Minister called on the French government to support Belgrade's initiative to conduct new negotiations on the basis of the existing Resolution 1244.
He underlined that a new Security Council resolution must be based on a compromise solution the two sides can reach if true and substantial negotiations are held under the UN mandate.
Kouchner said that Ahtisaari's plan is the best foundation for finding a solution and that new negotiations will show whether there are new proposals, alongside Ahtisaari's plan.
