According to a statement by the Serbian government’s EU Integration Office, Djelic said on the occasion that there is political will on the Serbian side to reach this goal. He expressed expectation that the EU will support Serbia in this endeavour, as it has done until now in the process of stabilisation and association.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister, who is head of the negotiating team, expressed his conviction that during the two day round of negotiations the two sides will make significant progress, and stressed that there are great expectations in Serbia regarding the EU, but besides quicker conclusion of the agreement, it is also important that best viable solutions are found for both sides.
Head of the department for Serbia at the European Commission's Enlargement Directorate Therese Sobieski said that she expects that the talks, which began today in Belgrade, will be efficient and will produce a result which will lead to conclusion of the SAA.
According to Sobieski, when the implementation of the agreement begins, there will be major progress and simplify trade between the two sides.
Representatives of Serbia and the EU will negotiate the text of the agreement that deals with trading concessions in the field of agriculture and industry, deadlines for taking preventive measures in trade between Serbia and the EU, as well as state monopolies, public companies and electronic communications.
