According to the statement, Dinkic said after the meeting that this is good news for Serbia, since membership in the WTO is Serbia’s priority in foreign trade.
Membership in WTO is also a precondition for membership in the EU, so this will be an important step towards joining the EU, said the Minister and stressed that with that aim Serbia will draft several legislative regulations so that Serbian economic and agricultural activities are brought in harmony with WTO standards.
Dinkic said that bilateral negotiations will be held with top WTO members on protection of certain products, adding that the process of harmonising Serbian legislation and the said negotiations must develop side by side.
The delegation of the Serbian Ministry of Economy and Regional Development also met today with head of the working group for joining the WTO Karsten Vagn Nielsen, Director of the WTO Accession Department Arif Hussain and secretary of the working group Adnal Cato.
Later meetings were held with EU Ambassador to the WTO Eckart Guth and US Ambassador to the WTO Peter Allgeier.
