Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica spoke today with Foreign Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija as well as on bilateral cooperation of the two countries.
Kostunica told Yatsenyuk that Serbia highly appreciates the principled position of Ukraine related to the settlement of the Kosovo-Metohija status, which is complementary to the Serbian Constitution especially in the field that refers to the need of finding a compromise solution in negotiations that would be acceptable to both sides and based on the respect of crucial principles of international law and the UN Charter.
The Serbian Prime Minister noted that the same rules must be applied to all states and that forming an Albanian state on part of Serbian territory is unacceptable to Serbia.
Kostunica stressed that the principle of respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty of states must be respected universally and without exception as otherwise there would be serious consequences for peace and stability in the region and in the world.
Kostunica stressed that Serbia supports new and real negotiations for Kosovo-Metohija status without any imposture or limitation.
The two officials especially focused on the possibilities of further development and promotion of bilateral cooperation as well as intensification of political dialogue between Serbia and Ukraine.
They agreed that promotion of economic cooperation between the two countries in the forthcoming period is of utmost importance.
Kostunica and Yatsenyuk also agreed that the Ukrainian and Ruthenian minorities in Serbia represent an important bridge of friendship and connection between Serbia and Ukraine.
