The Austrian government has prepared a plan for the decentralisation of Kosovo-Metohija, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus said following a meeting with Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Benita Ferrero-Waldner in Vienna today, adding that several Central European countries gave their support for the plan.
Austria’s decentralisation plan resembles a document which the Serbian parliament adopted in March, said Labus.
Recalling that the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs was the first European official to propose functional and personal autonomy in Kosovo-Metohija, Labus said that the two sides will resume talks on constitutional and state administration issues on July 11 when Ferrero-Waldner is due to visit Belgrade to attend a ceremony during which Boris Tadic will be sworn in as Serbia’s new president.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Serbia cannot be excluded from talks on the province and described the Vienna meeting as open and worm.
According to him, Austria has welcomed the outcome of Serbia’s presidential election and the country’s efforts to continue on the path of democracy.
He also noted that Austria will take over the European Union presidency in 2006 and added that the country has 600 troops in Kosovo-Metohija.
