The National Council for Cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) held its first session in its new convocation today and passed decisions to send comprehensive documentation to the Hague Tribunal’s prosecution, in line with its 13 requests, and to relieve seven witnesses of their obligation to keep official secrets, for the purposes of this court’s proceedings.
The statement adds that 38 requests submitted by the defence also received positive answers. These requests concerned the documentation necessary for the preparation of indictees’ defence before the Hague Tribunal.
The Council also decided to grant a request of the defence to access the archives of Serbian state organs.
The National Council will in the upcoming period continue to respond to the requests of both the prosecution and defence, with the aim of achieving full cooperation and fulfilling all international obligations before this court, adds the statement.
