Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus met today with representatives of the Microsoft company, who expressed interest in renewing by the end of the year the agreement on strategic partnership signed with the Serbian government three years ago, which granted to Serbia 30,000 licences for the state administration and 50,000 for science and educational institutions.
Labus said during the meeting that the legalisation of software programmes have sent a message to foreign investors that their rights are protected, especially those concerning intellectual property. He added that the piracy risk has been reduced markedly in the past three years.
The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister said that the agreement with this company also creates conditions for the development of domestic software industry and protects it against piracy.
Labus said that as far as state institutions are concerned, the government will try to find the best solution for the administration information systems. He highlighted the importance of the strategic state information system which would allow for the state to acquire the full e-government system as soon as possible.
The Microsoft delegation included General Director for Central and Eastern Europe Christopher Brennan, President of the Microsoft Adriatics Goran Radman and General Director of Microsoft Software in Serbia-Montenegro Dejan Cvetkovic.
