A new owner must guarantee that PKB will improve operations and benefit from more investment, Labus told a press conference following a visit to PKB today.
The state wants to see the company perform well, receive investment and improve machinery, he added.
The Deputy Prime Minister also said that the government is ready to set aside funding in the budget to cover the difference in wheat production cost and its market price.
The state is making efforts to help farmers sell wheat, cover their costs and earn money, Labus explained, adding that he hopes that the government will find a satisfactory solution to the problem of this year’s wheat yield price over the next few days.
Labus also said that he is optimistic about Serbia restoring sugar exports to the European Union. Noting that the EU has requested that the government check the origin of the 190,000 tons of sugar which Serbia exported to the EU, Labus said that line ministries are due to prepare a report over the next seven days and forward it to Brussels.
According to him, Serbia could market nearly 200,000 tons of sugar this year.
The government will also meet with EU officials to discuss whether Serbia will restore its preferential trade treatment or benefit from a quote that could help the country export its surplus sugar, the Deputy Prime Minister added.
