Milosavljevic recalled that the project was launched in 2003 and included reconstruction of 20 hospitals and support to reorganisation and restructuring of hospital capacities.
He said that the purpose of the project is to build capacity of the Ministry of Health for implementation of reforms as well as implementation of the project “Urgent Reconstruction of 20 Hospitals in Serbia” through a loan of the European Investment Bank (EIB).
According to him, the project also included training in management, hospital organisation, business planning, finances and budget management for managerial teams in hospitals and employees in the Ministry of Health.
Director of the Project Implementation Unit Ljubisa Perisic said that so far nearly €46.3 million has been invested in reconstruction of 20 hospitals and the Torlak immunology and virology institute.
Perisic said that €38.9 million was spent from the EIB loan and €7.4 million from the Serbian budget.
He said that hospitals in Jagodina, Paracin, Cuprija, Novi Pazar, Uzice and Sremska Mitrovica have been reconstructed completely whereas the first phase has been completed in the Zvezdara clinical and hospital centre and Zajecar and Smederevo hospitals.
By the end of June, works will be completed in hospitals in Cacak, Kikinda and Krusevac whereas other hospitals should be completed by the end of September.
Team leader Steen Bang Christensen handed over the awards for special engagements and results to best hospitals engaged in the project.
