Investigating Judge in the War Crimes Council of the Belgrade District Court Milan Dilparic said in a statement to the news agency Beta that an investigation procedure will be launched if preliminary findings confirm that there could be a mass grave in the marked area.
Dilparic said that examination of the site, which is located between the Serbian police and Kfor check points at the administrative line between central Serbia and Kosovo-Metohija, could not be searched earlier due to dampness.
According to Dilparic, if it is confirmed that there is a mass grave the search will be temporarily halted in order to secure conditions for conducting a thorough search of the area.
President of the Serbian Committee for Missing Persons Veljko Odalovic pointed to the fact that it is necessary to search this area in order to verify stories conveyed by the media in Pristina regarding the number of bodies, adding that the court will determine the truth.
Representatives of domestic and international institutions and organisations will take part in the search of the potential mass grave location, and the preliminary search beginning as of today will last until June 8.
