Milososki and Basha stated in Skopje that their countries support the proposal by UN Special Envoy Marti Ahtisaari advocating supervised independence for Kosovo-Metohija and called upon the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution based upon it.
A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that such statements will prejudice the final status of Kosovo-Metohija which is to be subject of debate in the UN Security Council and they could cause instability in the region and undermine the basic principles of the UN upon which the international order rests.
Serbia believes in strengthening good neighbourly relations, respect of territorial integrity and sovereignty of all neighbouring countries and is certain that the independence of Kosovo-Metohija would be a dangerous precedent which could bring into question the territorial integrity of other countries in the Balkans, as well as of states in other regions of the world, reads the statement.
Serbia advocates a sustainable solution based on compromise, acceptable to both sides, for determining the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, which would safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, and provide Kosovo-Metohija substantial autonomy within the borders of Serbia, concludes the statement.
