Karanovic said at a ceremony held to observe the 80th year of the Special Psychiatric Hospital in Gornja Toponica that €2 million of the total sum will be provided to this establishment.
She recalled that during the previous two years a sum worth some RSD 30 million was invested in the reconstruction of the water and sewage system of the hospital, adding that there will be a change in the strategy regarding psychiatric patients and their connection with their surroundings with the aim to rehabilitate and fully integrate them in society.
The construction of the Special Psychiatric Hospital in Gornja Toponica began in 1924, and it began to function on May 1, 1927 when more than 200 patients were transferred there from Belgrade.
Honourable guests at the ceremony were Crown-Prince Aleksandar and Princess Katarina Karadjordjevic, Bishop Irinej, representatives of the humanitarian organisation Life Line and Karitas Italijana, Alan Laylock and Paolo Sera.
The ceremony also included a rich cultural and artistic presentation in which the SKC female choir, actress Milica Milsa, the trio “Simonuti”, solo vocalist and art studio “M” from Nis participated.
