Bishop Teodosije, prior of the Visoki Decani monastery, hailed the decision of UNESCO to inscribe the Visoki Decani monastery on the World Heritage List, adding that it is a “joyous and encouraging news” for the whole Serbian people.

“The Decani monastery has connected the peoples and cultures for centuries with its medieval Romanic architecture and Byzantine-Serbian style,” the statement of Bishop Teodosije reads.
Bishop Teodosije said that the Visoki Deccani monastery is part of local cultural heritage of Kosovo-Metohija. Kosovo citizens should be proud of it regardless of their ethnic or religious origin, the Eparchy of Raska and Prizren reported.
He said that the attitude to Visoki Decani will test the Kosovo society if it is ready to accept the European and world values.
“Therefore, I expect the understanding and support of the people of good will, especially Kosovo Albanians. I sincerely hope that the feeling of responsibility and the conscience will prevail and that the future cannot be built on the ashes of churches and destruction of Christian heritage that has lived many conquests and destructions over the centuries,” Bishop Teodosije said.
The Visoki Decani monastery was erected by Serbian King Stefan Decanski between 1327 and 1335. The monastery is dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord.
