Director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petković conveyed today to Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Mission in Kosovo and Metohija (UNMIK) Peter Due that Serbs in the province expect the mission to respond with heightened responsibility to all ethnically motivated incidents, attacks and threats to their rights by Priština.

During the meeting with Due, Petković specifically highlighted the politically motivated arrests of Serbs carried out by the provisional institutions in Priština, including nine Serb heads of households from Zubin Potok.
He emphasised that, in all these proceedings, the presumption of innocence of our people is violated and their right to an effective defence is denied; individuals are detained based on ethnicity, without clear evidence or proof of guilt, with the sole aim of intimidating and driving out the Serb population.
It is unacceptable for the international community to remain silent and fail to adequately engage in protecting Serb rights in the numerous instances where those rights are being violated, the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated.
Petković also pointed out all the obstructions by Priština regarding the dialogue taking place in Brussels, noting that Albin Kurti’s regime is undermining all the achievements of the negotiations to date through unilateral, unlawful and escalatory moves, while simultaneously refusing to establish the Community of Serb Municipalities for 13 years.
