Rasim Ljajic
Ljajic told the press that the arrest of the former Serbian Army general is a huge step ahead towards the conclusion of Serbia’s remaining obligations towards the tribunal.
He denied that the arrest had anything to do with the announced visit of the tribunal’s Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte to Belgrade next week.
Tolimir was arrested when there were enough indications as to his precise whereabouts and a joint operation of the Serbian and Republika Srpska interior ministries was performed, stressed Ljajic.
Ljajic said that this is a good message as regards to other Hague indictees that no one can escape justice.
He called on remixing indictees, primarily Stojan Zupljanin and Goran Hadzic, to surrender voluntarily and to use the possibility that voluntary surrender offers.
I am not calling on Ratko Mladic as it is unrealistic to expect that he will surrender, Ljajic said.
According to him, the aforementioned arrest, the setting up of the National Security Council and re-establishment of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal create a good political and social climate that will contribute to the fulfilment of remaining obligations to the tribunal and continuation of talks with the EU.
