At Belgrade’s Trg Republike Square, where World No Tobacco Day was observed, Milosavljevic presented a boy from Uzice with an award for winning the competition for the best drawing to the set theme “One Smoker, Many Victims”, organised by the Public Health Association in Uzice.
The Minister stressed that smoking is “not a bad habit, but a serious problem”, a risk factor for serious illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases and malignant tumors.
He recalled that from 2000 onwards, the percentage of smokers in Serbia has reduced by 1% and announced a plan to halve the number of smokers before 2015.
According to Milosavljevic, all health centres will be declared tobacco smoke free zones by the end of this government’s mandate, which means a no smoking policy will be in force in all rooms inside the centres.
Milosavljevic announced that the
Ministry of Health received an award from the World Health Organisation for the campaign “One Smoker, Many Victims”.
Yesterday, citizens were able to learn about detrimental effects of smoking and ways to give up this vice, as well as to exchange cigarettes for a healthy product – an apple, banana or a bottle of water – and talk with health workers.
The observation of the World No Tobacco Day was organised by the Ministry of Health, Public Health Institute Milan Jovanovic Batut and the Public Health Association of Serbia.
