Ilic said that unemployment is the price all transition countries have to pay and added that 19.5% of youth with working ability aged from 15 to 24 works, whereas the percentage in developed EU countries climbs up to 40%.
Necessary for solving the unemployment problem are education, continued reform of the National Employment Service, changes to the tax system and development of small and medium-sized enterprises as well as attraction of foreign direct investments, the State Secretary explained.
Director of the National Employment Service Radovan Ristanovic said that around 30,000 young people in Serbia are jobless and two-thirds have been looking for employment for over a year.
One-third does not have secondary education and half of them is without any work experience, said Ristanovic and added that most young people have no practical knowledge, which is a considerable problem.
He said that a national action plan on youth employment is underway and announced that on Thursday and Friday the
Second Conference of Southeast European Public Employment Services will be held and will mainly concern youth employment.
