During a break in the debate themed “Serbia’s Answers to Current Challenges”, held at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, Miscevic told the press that there have been no indications from Brussels suggesting the talks will be resumed these days, but added it is obvious that the pause cannot last much longer.
According to Miscevic, there’s still enthusiasm in the EU regarding the continuation of the talks, therefore the time left before the talks resume can be measured in weeks rather than months.
She reiterated that cooperation with The Hague and submitting documents required by the Tribunal is still the condition for the resumption of negotiations, adding that Serbia will be ready for talks the instant such a decision is brought.
Talking about legislative activity, Miscevic said that it is very important in the process of EU integration to adopt a set of laws issuing from the decrees of Constitutional Law for implementing the Serbian Constitution.
She recalled that among other things, it is necessary to adopt the law on the ombudsman, on the supreme audit institution, as well as the law regarding the governor of the National Bank of Serbia.
She pointed to the fact that since last year, a large number of laws in the area of agriculture and environmental protection are in parliamentary procedure pending adoption and added that from the beginning of the year 42 more bills entered the procedure which concern public procurement, issue of competition, foreign trade and state aid.
Miscevic said that Serbian parliament will work through the entire summer and there is a great chance that parliament will adopt the whole set of necessary laws by the end of summer.
