Ristanovic said in an interview to Poslovi newspaper that the problem of youth employment needs to be addressed urgently since according to the data of the National Employment Service, youth employment in Serbia stands at 18.7%, while in the countries of the European Union that number is 40%.
In Serbia there are some 300,000 unemployed young people, so this population makes up for 34.5% of all unemployed, without taking into account a huge brain drain of the best young workforce that Serbia has.
Ristanovic voiced hope that the upcoming Conference, as well as the closing discussion conducted at the local employment offices in the previous months, will help make a good national action plan that would enable a better and quicker solution of the problem of youth employment.
He said that the aim is to set up a centre for exchange of experiences between public employment services of the region, which should help eliminate administrative barriers in the employment process.
In addition to directors of public employment services of the region, high officials of the World Association of Public Employment Services (WAPES) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) will also take part in the work of the conference.
