Jeremic told a press conference following talks with Ugarte that he explained to the Costa Rican Foreign Minister Serbia’s stand on the issue of the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, the reasons for which any kind of independence for the southern province is unacceptable for Serbia, and what grave consequences it could have not just for the Balkans, but the entire region.
Ugarte, according to Jeremic, showed great interest in the Kosovo-Metohija issue and recalled that Costa Rica is a candidate for the future, non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council, which will be elected on January 1, 2008.
We got acquainted with the problem of Kosovo-Metohija through the UN SC Resolution 1244 and reports of the Security Council mission which recently visited Kosovo-Metohija, but it is of extraordinary importance that we had the opportunity to gain information on the matter through direct contact with Belgrade, said Ugarte.
Jeremic and Ugarte said that other subjects discussed were the need to improve economic relations between the two countries and the possibility of participation by Serbian companies in the development of projects in South America.
