Speaking at the opening ceremony, Jerinic said that the Centre was opened with the help of the British government, who approved a €601,000 donation for the fight against crime.
British Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro David Gowan said that it is very important for a country to have an efficient and well equipped customs service, which can fight against a small number of unscrupulous individuals who are getting rich at the expense of the majority. For that reason, the newly-opened Centre is at the level of such centres in the European union.
Gowan said that this donation is a part of a larger programme of assistance to Serbia's customs administration, which includes personnel training, a modern speedboat which will patrol on the rivers of Drina, Danube and Sava, and 14 Skoda Fabia passenger vehicles for members of the sector for right implementation of customs regulations.
