The award was handed over in the National Museum in Belgrade by Denis de Kergorlay, Vice-President of Europa Nostra, a European association of NGOs for protection of cultural heritage.
Menkovic voiced thanks for the award and expressed satisfaction that the project was carried out in cooperation with seven monument protection associations in Europe and the Central Registration Institute in Rome as well as the Serbian Orthodox Church and with support from Italian NGO Intersos.
The project’s aim was to attract public’s eye to the alarming situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the necessity of creating basic prerequisites for protection, preservation and revitalisation of damaged buildings.
Serbian Minister of Culture Dragan Kojadinovic congratulated the winner and said that this project should serve as a model for others.
With support of international organisations, I believe that we will be on the right path when it comes to changing the atmosphere, removing various kinds of prejudice between the two peoples that is perhaps the biggest obstacle, Kojadinovic said.
