Serbian Minister of Science and Environmental Protection Aleksandar Popovic said today that the announced arrival of UN Security Council Mission to Serbia is the best moment for Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer to back Serbia and strongly pledge for inviolability of state borders and respect of principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Popovic told agency Tanjug that such Gusenbauer’s stand would also be support to a group of countries in the EU that strongly oppose Ahtisaari’s plan to break up Serbia and violently alter its internationally recognised borders.
The Minister said that at this point it would be very important that Gusenbauer clearly backs a new negotiating process with a new international mediator, in a move to provide substantial autonomy for the southern Serbian province. He also noted that the solution for Kosovo-Metohija must be in accordance with the UN Charter, European values and the Serbian Constitution.
