Draskovic said that the Serbian people and the government believe that the UN Security Council, whose member is the South African Republic, will respect the UN Charter and refuse the proposal of UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari to proclaim an independent state of Kosovo upon the territory of an internationally sovereign state of Serbia.
In his talks with Mbeki, Draskovic voiced hope that the UN Security Council will find a just solution for Kosovo-Metohija, as the former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, assured.
That is precisely the solution offered by Serbia - that its state borders are not changed, that the Albanian majority administers Kosovo-Metohija in a completely autonomous way, and that the Serbs and their historical, religious and cultural heritage in Kosovo-Metohija be protected, Draskovic said.
During a long meeting with the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Draskovic said that instead of offering a compromise solution, Ahtisaari proposes violently redrawing Serbia's borders, which will lead to lasting instability with dangerous consequences.
We need people who will build bridges between people and nations, as in South Africa, and not cartographers who burn existing bridges by changing state borders, Draskovic pointed out.
He invited President Mbeki and Minister Zuma to visit Serbia, adding that he is impressed by democratic and economic progress of their country, which is taking over the role of the leader on the continent.
