Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic said that Serbia-Montenegro supports adoption of the Children’s Environment and Health Action Plan for Europe (CEHAPE). By signing this document, Serbia-Montenegro will assume obligation to have precisely defined actions of children health protection in next few years.
Minister Milosavljevic is heading the Serbia-Montenegrin delegation at the 4th ministerial conference on health and environmental protection entitled "Future of Our Children", held in Budapest and organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) European office. He told the Tanjug news agency that documents signed at this conference are binding for all health systems and that Serbia-Montenegro applies all WHO acts as laws.
It is very important for Serbia-Montenegro to again take part in WHO's development projects, from which it was excluded in the past ten years, Milosavljevic said. He called on international partners to assist and cooperate in the preparation of the national environmental health action plan.
The Minister of Health said that Serbia-Montenegro should sign WHO's Convention on Tobacco Control by late June. Signatories of the Convention are obliged to ratify it in the next two years, and then to place a ban on cigarette advertising in the next 18 to 24 months and to introduce strict bans over next five years. Minister Milosavljevic concluded that the Ministry will continue to insist on the full elimination of tobacco.
