Speaking at a Conference on intellectual property protection, organised by the Ministry of Justice and the US Chamber of Commerce, Bjelica said that the agreement on cooperation between the ministries of justice of Serbia and Montenegro, which was signed recently, will create conditions for the establishment of the Court of the State Union of Serbia-Montenegro. It will secure, among other things, better protection of intellectual property rights.
Bjelica said that the new law on criminal procedure will list for the first time all criminal acts related to the violation of intellectual property rights, which will help courts suppress that kind of crime more efficiently.
Serbia-Montenegrin Minister of Internal Economic Relations of the State Union Amir Nurkovic said that the preparation and adoption of laws, reorganisation of institutions and personnel training in the field of intellectual property are the most important issues treated by the Serbia-Montenegrin Council of Ministers and governments of the two republics. Nurkovic voiced hope that all laws which regulate protection of intellectual property rights will be harmonised with the European Union standards, adding that they will be submitted to the Serbia-Montenegrin parliament for adoption by early September.
