According to the statement the aim of this seminar is to train primary health care teams for work in advisory centres for giving up the smoking habit.
Participants in the first seminar, which was held on March 15 in Belgrade, included 33 representatives of health centres in Belgrade, Valjevo, Pancevo, Pozarevac, Cacak, Uzice and the Institute for Health Care for students.
On that occasion three approaches to giving up the smoking habit were presented – one individual and two group ones: stop now, seven steps to freedom and the five-day plan to quit smoking.
The next seminar will be held in Nis on March 22 and invitations for participation have been directed to representatives of health centres in Nis, Krusevac, Kraljevo, Pirot, Zajecar, Leskovac and Vranje. The third seminar will be held in Novi Sad on March 29, and participants will include representatives of health centres in Novi Sad, Subotica, Sabac, Kikinda, Sremska Mitrovica, Sombor and Zrenjanin.
Those invited to the seminars include doctors in preventive health centres or doctors who will work in the future on providing help in giving up smoking, as well as doctors, nurses and medical staff who are already engaged in work in advisory centres.
A handbook on giving up smoking has been printed which is available to all workers in health centres and other support material for work in advisory centres consists of posters and videos, reads the statement.
